For my internship I work in Woodrow Wilson Elementary School in San Leandro. I work with my old teacher, Ms.Linchey which is currently my brothers teacher. My first day at my internship was really fun because When I arrived there my mentor actually did remember me. We talked for a while and then she introduce me to the staff, well some remember me so it was nothing new but it felt like I was back at that school again was was cool. After that my mentor Ms.Linchey introduced me to the kids and the kids had to interview me. After I helped the kids with their work, we all put our halloween costumes and we walked around the school and then we ate ice-cream and enjoyed the rest of the day.

My internship place was closed today because they had no school. So I stayed home and finished my homework.
(Nov 19, 2010) Optional
Today was an optional day to go to our internship and I decided to go because last week my internship place was closed and I don't want to fall back on my hours. For my internship I had fun because I did thanksgiving activities with the kids. While they were doing their activities I had to walk around and see who needed help with their work. It's fun to walk around and talk with each kid to get to them a little better just so that they can feel a little more comfortable with mi since I'm going to be around for a while. After the kids had their fourth recess break, my mentor and I were serving pumpkin and apple pie on plates for each student. After each kid got their pie piece we all had to share something were thankful for and something we appreciate. After that school was over and I stayed 15min extra to help my mentor clean her room. Then I went home and relaxed.

Today for my internship went okay. We did mostly writing and math the whole day, which seemed like the day went slow. I had to work with a group of kids that were struggling with math and writing and I felt like the kids were too hyper and loud. They didn't seem like they wanted to learn. I told my mentor to tell them to stay focus a few times because they were just ignoring me. One student was getting mad at me because she wanted me to tell her the answers, I was trying to help her solve it on her own but she was just mad. But after that situation it went smooth.

The leadership skills Im using at my internships right now are Complete Projects Effectively because my mentor Ms.Linchey gives me a stack of work I have to finish on time because sometimes it's the kids homework or class work so I have to make sure I finish it on time. I also use Collaborate Productively When my mentor gives me a group of kids to work with I have to make sure each student collaborate with each other but not just the student have to collaborate, I also have to collaborate with them to make sure they understand what they are learning. The last leadership I'm using is Critical Thinking because When I'm working with a group with kids I have to think of a way to teach them a little lesson about whatever the topic, I have to make sure each of the student understands what I'm showing them. I'm using this leaderships skills because I think that at some point we all use those leadership skills. I learned about this leadership skills at Impact more this year because I realize that not just students used them but also the teachers. My role as a student is different from my internship one because when I'm at school I feel I'm louder and funnier because I feel like I can joke around with anybody and when I'm at my internship I have to be more serious then I am because I'm older then the students I work with and I have to be a role model for them,I have to set good examples for them.

Today for my internship it was a short day because it was a week before winter break, so it was pretty much a day with fun activities. First all the student took their spelling test like they always do on Fridays, then we talked about different traditions that other countries do on Christmas day and we also got to share what our family does on Christmas also. After that we all wrote a letter to our family about the things they like about Christmas and how we enjoy and spend Christmas with their family, and I worked with a small group to help them brain storm ideas for their letter. Then we all got to decorate our own cookies and we drank milk with it. After that it was time to go home so we all said our goodbye's to each other and I stayed to help my mentor to clean up her room and after I left home. For my WLE I have to have 75 hours in total and so far I think I have like about 34-ish or 35-ish hours so I think I'm on track and if I am behind then I will have to go on other days to makes my hours up. For my main project I want to create a science lesson since science is my favorite subject , so I'm thinking of making a lesson that I learned along time ago, I'm going to show the students how to make their own goo. I think it will be a fun and cool experiment to do with them since the student do really do fun science labs. So far for my presentation I need to collect more picture of what types of things I do at my internship because I only have a little.

I didn't get to interview my mentor because I was not aware that I was suppose to. For my internship I had fun. When I arrived to my internship I started to help my mentor on things she needed to get done before class started, while I was doing work we were also talking about the project I'm going to do with the students. After that the students came in from P.E and then we first did a language arts worksheet on their workbook and I had to work with a small group that had trouble on it. After that I worked with a small group on reading because they didn't really understand what was happening in the story so I helped the students understand more and I also gave them tips so that they won't struggle a lot. After that half the student go to computer time and the other stay's and works on reading and language arts things, So I had to help two students trying to find word in the dictionary and to help them understand what they read in the story they had to read a day before. After that it was time for lunch. During lunch I got to play tetherball with some of the student and I beat everybody in the court which felt cool because I haven't played in a long time so I was surprised I still had some skills at it, but it was cool to hang out with some of the student. I got to them a little better. After lunch we did a science experiment which was that the student had to blow up balloon and see what would happen if they rubbed there balloon with a piece of wool and saran wrap. A lot of students had a blast doing this project because they got to work with another partner. After the science experiment they started the Rice Crispy activity. We got to make Rice Crispy treats that involved math and how much of things you had to put into to make a Rice Crispy treat. I was fun helping the student out with the Rice Crispy treats, they all collaborated pretty good as a team which made me happy. After that the student had to cut them into 6's and 7's so that each student would get a fair amount of treats. After they cut them into the pieces, we got to enjoy them which was great. Then we just cleaned up good so no ants would visit the classroom and then it was time to go home. So that was my day.

For my WLE project I still need to get all the materials I need in order for me to do my project. This week for my WLE I didn't do nothing. For my project I'm going to create a science lesson for the student and then I'm going to teach it to them showing them how to make their own goo. I think I am going to be able to finish all my hours and also be able to teach the students the lesson I'm planning for them.

Well I feel like I'm learning the same as other student because sometimes you may not learn anything but you have fun at your internship, well at least I do. I read Yessica's blog and I feel like I can connect with what she does at her internship because she interns at a elementary school just like I do so I kind of get an idea of the types of things she does. Yessica gives details about the things she does with students at her internship just like me so I guess you can say write about the same. It seems like other students don't care about blogging but I guess it's on them, the person I would show how to blog is Diana because she doesn't have anything on her blog yet so I'm going to help her succeed in her blogging skills. Now that the internships are almost over, I think that sucks because I really LOVE my internship and I made new little friends at my internship, I'm like there role model. I don't want it to end. I didn't go to my internship on Friday because it was closed. Well I don't need to do nothing new because I always do something new and I'm always excited to try it.

My work place is at Wilson Elementary school in San Leandro. The classroom is warm and there's colorful paper everywhere. It feels like an art room. It smells fresh and there's students work hanging around the wall. It's clean and very organized. I say the classroom is pretty big. My mentor went to college and got her degree to become a teacher. The schools location is next to a middle school which is John Muir Middle School so theres a lot of student in the morning and in the afternoon as well. But the school location is nice and calming, its a safe environment for the students.

On my last day of my WLE it went bad because I went home early because I was really sick so I went home. I was upset because it was my last day and I was suppose to do my project and I didn't get to do it at all. So I have to return to my WLE place to do my project and so that my mentor can sign off my last hours. The one thing I learned was that it is not easy being a teacher because I got to try to be a teacher and I didn't really enjoy it, well I did because I interacted with all the students but I just didn't like how some student don't even try to do their work and just want me to give them the answers which is hard because I want them to use their brain. So now I understand teachers at our school, how frustrated they can get and how they want us to learn so that we can succeed. I'm going to go back to my WLE to get the rest of my hours so I won't fail.
